Dear Friends,

I am sincerely happy to welcome the participants and guests of the World Championship in the hospitable land of Kazakhstan!

The World Championship in Almaty will be a landmark event in the history of boxing as it will be held under new AIBA rules, without protective helmets, opening a new page in the history of this popular sport.

The World Boxing Championship is one of the most important achievements of the independent Kazakhstan in the global sports arena, and our country hosts the World Championship by right indeed. Kazakhstan boxers consistently show high results. Over the years of independence, they would ascend the top tier of the victory stand at all Olympic games having for three times won the most honorable award in amateur boxing, Val Barker Trophy, and proving that the Kazakhstan school of boxing is one of the strongest across the globe.

It is noteworthy that this World Championship is held in a year of the 80th anniversary of systemic boxing development in Kazakhstan – the first boxing sections were set up in our country back in 1933.

As part of the World Championship, the AIBA World Boxing Academy will be opened. This sports training complex unparalleled in the world will become a specialized center of excellence for national federations, AIBA members. Providing state-of-the-art training facilities and programs for the development of both athletes and a wide range of professionals, such as coaches, judges, doctors, sports managers and administrators, the Academy will become a key tool for the development and promotion of boxing.

We are proud of the fact that the right to host the World Championship has been entrusted to Kazakhstan. It is both a great honor and a great responsibility, and we will make every effort to hold the event at the highest possible level.

Boxing is one of the most popular sports in our country, and we are interested in the development of this sport in the world arena. In this regard, our aspirations coincide with the course held by AIBA, the achievements of which are obvious.

I extend my thanks to Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu, President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for the support AIBA has been providing to our federation. During our joint work, we have established fruitful relationships that will continue to dynamically develop further on.

Today, it is impossible to imagine a modern prosperous state without a developed sports infrastructure. Sports have not only become an integral part of our daily life, one of the most important aspects in the formation of a modern harmonious and competitive individual, but also a factor uniting countries and peoples throughout the globe.

The people of Kazakhstan have always been distinguished for their traditions of hospitality, all the more so we are pleased to play host to representatives of this manly sport.

I congratulate you on the opening of the World Boxing Championship, Almaty 2013!

I wish all participants good luck in their sports endeavors and victories in an honest and uncompromising fight!
