Having won medals at the 2011 World Championship and the Olympic Games in London, today the Cuban boxer Yasnier Toledo contended with Merey for gold. But our boxer pressed his opponent with intense across all three rounds, landing lightning-like attacks and standing head and shoulders above the Cuban technically.
"The final turned out to be a tough one, the opponent was really good, but I accomplished a mission given to me by my coach. Many thanks to all the fans for the support they have given us throughout the championship," - Merey said after the victory.
The bronze medals went to Everton Lopes (Brazil) and Munkh-Erdene Uranchimeg (Mongolia).
